Halloween cookies

I decided to make a last minute treat for tonight's festivities, yummy vanilla bean sugar cookies.  I have these two cutter sets that I adore and thought I would put them to use before putting them away until next year.

Both cookie cutter sets are from Williams-Sonoma. The first set pictured here is one I picked up a few Halloweens ago. This one here is the current cookie cutter set they have now in store and they are on sale!! Bonus!!

This set is so fun. I really like how you can create you own face for the jack-o-lantern or just leave them as a plain pumpkin

ready for the oven

Happy Halloween!!!

You could use any roll out cookie dough recipe you like.  I really like this one

Halloween is so much fun, and making these little babies really got me in the mood for fun size candy, scary movies and carving pumpkins.

Stop by the Mastercard Centre at 400 Kipling Ave tomorrow, October 29th to get these yummy treats for yourself. $2.50 each.

Here are some pics of me making them.

 Halloween sprinkles

I usually use Five Roses flour, but picked up of bag of King Arthur Flour while I was in the States a few weeks ago.  I hear wonderful things about it so am eager to try it out.

Vanilla bean paste.  Incredible vanilla flavour

Now for the fun part, decorating!!

Can you guess what this is for?? :)

It’s a cupcake carrier! Actually it is called the cupcake carousel and my boyfriend’s very thoughtful mom surprised me with it last night.

It’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, anyone who knows me knows I love pink and love all things cupcake.  I cannot wait to use it!  The carrier holds up to 24 cupcakes J Thanks again Ruth!

chocolate cake w/ caramel buttercream

One of my favourite baking books, Sugarbaby by Gesine Bullock-Prado, has this A-MAZ-ING cake recipe called the Jackie-Oh cake.

The batter has hot coffee, Lindt 70% dark chocolate and cocoa powder and the icing is an italian meringue buttercream with caramel sauce whipped in.

The cakes just from the oven, the recipe asked for three 10in cakes but i used 8in cake pans instead

slowly adding the hot sugar syrup to the egg whites

I tried to make it look just like the picture, the sides are covered with cake crumbs that I pulsed in the food processor to make them fine. The crumbs are made from the extra pieces when leveling off the cakes

I used a wilton 1M tip to pipe these pretty rosettes on top of the cake. Click here for the recipe.

Giving thanks for pie

Here are some pics of the pie making that went on this weekend for Thanksgiving.  I made one deep dish apple bourbon struesel pie and a pecan pumpkin butter pie.  Both recipes are from Williams-Sonoma and they were the best pies I've ever had hands down.   I highly recommend them both.

1 of these jars, eggs and heavy cream make the easiest, dreamiest pumpkin pie...ever

I made the crust with the food processor

I Love this pie dish.  It is an Emile Henry baking dish from Williams-Sonoma

This one is ready for the oven! Click here for this yummy pie recipe
I used this set to get the decorative edge on both pies. I used the leaf cutter the most. It also includes an apple and pumpkin cutter as well

What a glorious sight! You HAVE to make this, click here for this amazing pie recipe

Heart, soul, flour and broken glass

Today tragedy struck in my kitchen. A casualty in the efforts of baking a birthday cake, my lovely Kitchen Aid glass mixing bowl has died

Everything was going smoothly and the cakes came out perfect, and just as I was washing up, proud of the morning’s efforts, I dropped the bowl in the sink and heard that terrible cracking sound.  I know I can easily go out and buy a new one, still it’s a sad day. And I miss it already L
